For a triangular norm \(T\) a \(T\)-indistinguishability operator \(E\) on \(X\) is a reflexive, symmetric and \(T\)-transitive fuzzy relation. A fuzzy subset \(\mu\) is extensional w.r.t. \(E\) if \(\mu(x) \geq T(E(x,y),\mu(y))\) for all \(x,y \in X\). Such a \(\mu\) is a fuzzy point if \(T(\mu(x),\mu(y)) \leq E(x,y)\). Granularity of a system is described using fuzzy points. These are upper bounds to the granularity. The existence of maximal fuzzy points is established and they are characterised as the fixed points of a special map. Fuzzy maps are studied with respect to the granularity. A fuzzy map \(R\) on \(X\times Y\) is called perfect, if and only if for each \(x \in X\) there is a unique \(y_x \in Y\) such that \(R(x,y_x)=1\). Some properties of perfect and classical fuzzy maps are stated and the existence of maximal fuzzy maps is proved. Maximal fuzzy maps handle the greatest uncertainity, in the sense that the granules are the largest possible, so they are the least specific maps in the system.
