The authors study the finite element model updating in structural dynamics. Using the Moore-Penrose generalized inverse and the singular value decomposition of matrices they provide a necessary and sufficient condition under which the problem is solvable and furthermore a numerical algorithm is given. Finally, they demonstrate the applicability of the proposed method and numerical results are presented, using MATLAB.
