For any positive integer \(a\), let \(S_2(a)\) be the sum of the squares of its decimal digits, and let \(S^0_2(a)=a\) and \(S^m_2(a)=S_2(S^{m-1}_2(a))\) for \(m\geq 1\). A happy number is a positive integer such that \(S^m_2(a)=1\) for some \(m\geq 0\), and its height is the least \(m\geq 0\) such that \(S^m_2(a)=1\). In the paper the authors give a general theoretical method to find the least happy number of any given height.
