Let \(X\) and \(Y\) be real vector spaces and \(f: X^2\to Y\). \textit{J. Bae} and \textit{W. Park} [J. Math. Anal. Appl. 326, 1142--1148 (2007; Zbl 1111.39025)] introduced a 2-variable quadratic functional equation \[ f(x+y,z+w)+f(x-y,z-w)=2f(x,z)+2f(y,w),\tag{1} \] gave its general solution and proved its stability. Now, the authors consider a generalization of the above equation \[ f\left(\sum_{i=1}^{n}x_i,\sum_{i=1}^{n}y_i\right)+\sum_{1\leq i<j\leq n}f(x_i-x_j,y_i-y_j)=n\sum_{i=1}^{n}f(x_i,y_i)\tag{2} \] with \(n\geq 2\). It is proved that (2) is equivalent to (1) and that the equation (2) (for \(Y\) being now a real Banach space) is stable in a so-called Hyers-Ulam-Rassias sense.
