The authors use as model for deep earthquakes the pendulum motion \[ u''- u^{\prime 2}\tan u+{q\over\ell}\sin u\text{\,sec}^2u= 0.\tag{\(*\)} \] They prove the existence of a periodic solution of \((*)\) and derive a formula for its period.
