For any poset \(P\) the collection of final segments of \(P\) is \(\text{FS}(P)=\{F\subseteq P:\forall x,y\in P\) \([x\in F\) and \(x\leq y\) imply that \(y\in F]\}\). With the topology inherited from \(\mathcal {P}(P)\) this becomes a Boolean space. A nearly ordinal space is a space of the form \(\text{FS}(P_0\cup P_1)\), where \(P_0\) and \(P_1\) are disjoint well-ordered chains. Each uncountable cardinal \(\kappa\) is assigned a rank \(r(\kappa)\) in a somewhat complicated way. Theorem: For any uncountable cardinal \(\kappa\) there is a family \(\langle X_\alpha:\alpha<2^\kappa\rangle\) of nearly ordinal spaces such that (1) each \(X_\alpha\) has size \(\kappa\) and is scattered, has rank \(r(\kappa)\), and the last derived set is a singleton; (2) \(\forall\alpha<2^\kappa\) \([X_\alpha\) is not retractive\(]\); (3) for distinct \(\alpha,\beta<2^\kappa\) the spaces \(X_\alpha\) and \(X_\beta\) are not homeomorpic (an even stronger statement holds). The Tikhonov plank is the space \((\omega_1+1)\times(\omega_1+1)\). Theorem: The Tikhonov plank contains \(2^{\alpha_1}\) pairwise non-homeomorphic closed subsets. A final theorem characterizes uncountable closed sublattices of the Tikhonov plank.
