The reviewed paper is a continuation of the authors' papers [Topology Appl. 146--147, 339--352 (2005; Zbl 1078.54014); ibid. 153, No.~17, 3355--3371 (2006; Zbl 1129.54012)]. A metric space \(X\) is said to be straight if, for any finite closed cover of \(X\), a real-valued continuous map is uniformly continuous provided it is uniformly continuous on every member of the cover. It is proved that a product of two straight spaces is straight iff either both spaces are precompact or both are uniformly locally connected (briefly, ULC) or one of the spaces is both precompact and ULC. Another result characterizes metric spaces for which the product with any straight space is straight: those are precompact ULC. Also countable products of straight spaces are examined and some sufficient and some necessary conditions are given. In addition to other results and examples about straight spaces, several open problems and questions are formulated at the end of the paper.
