Periodic traveling waves in chains of oscillators (Q1014113)

By using the linking theorem, the author proves the existence of nontrivial traveling waves \(q_n(s)=u(n-cs)\) with periodic profile function \(u\) for the system of equations \[ q''_n=a(q_{n+1}-2q_n+q_{n-1})+c_0q_n-V'(q_n),\quad n\in\mathbb Z. \] The above system describes the dynamics of an infinite chain of linearly coupled nonlinear oscillators, where each oscillator interacts linearly with two nearest neighbours.
