A remark on nonfinitely based semirings. (Q1014259)

An additively commutative and idempotent semiring \((\Sigma,+,\cdot)\) with absorbing zero has the NFB-property if it has a nonfinitely based equational theory. A criterion for the NFB-property is proved from which it can be derived that the finite semiring \(\mathbf{Tr}(m)\) has the NFB-property for \(m\geq 3\). Here \(\mathbf{Tr}(m)\) denotes the subsemiring of the semiring \(\mathbf{Rel}(m)\) of all Boolean \(m\times m\)-matrices which is generated by those matrices corresponding to the transformations on the set \(\{1,\dots,m\}\).
