In this paper the author shows that both the quantized universal enveloping algebra \(\mathbf{U}\) of \(\mathfrak{gl}_n\) and its modified form \(\dot{\mathbf{U}}\) are subalgebras of the inverse limit of generalized \(q\)-Schur algebras. This inverse limit is a \(q\)-analogue of the linear dual \(R[G]^*\) of the coordinate algebra of the corresponding linear algebras group \(G\). The construction is given for the generic case but it is compatible with the restricted integral form of Lusztig and the corresponding specializations. The addendum answers positively one of the questions raised in the paper.
