      This paper investigate the maximal solution \(U\) to the equation \(-\Delta u +u^q=0\) on an open set \(D\subset \mathbb R^N\) for \(N\geq 3\) and \(g\geq N/(N-2).\) The maximal solution is estimated by using the Bessel capacity \(C_{2,q'}\), and by using Wiener type criterion sufficient and necessary conditions are presented for the maximal solution to be large solution, i.e. \(U(x)\to \infty\) as \(x\to y\) for any \(y\in \partial D\). The main results are also extended to \(C_{2,q'}\)-finely open sets.
