Consider a dynamical system \(x' = f(x)\) in \(\mathbb{R}^n\), and a group \(G\) (in this case a finite group) acting in \(\mathbb{R}^n\) through a linear representation. The dynamnical system is \(G\)-symmetric if \(f (g x) = g f(x)\) for all \(x\) and all \(g \in G\). A heteroclinic cycle is the union of fixed points \(p_i\), \(i=1,\dots,m\) and of heteroclinic trajectories \(h_i\) connecting \(p_i\) to \(p_{i+1}\) (indices being modulo \(m\)). A connected invariant set which is the finite union of heteroclinic cycles is said to be a polycycle. A homoclinic cycle \(\Gamma\) is a polycycle which is a group orbit \(<h> \overline{\gamma}\) for a heteroclinic trajectory \(\gamma\) connecting \(p\) to \(g p\) for some \(g \in G\); a homoclinic network is a connected component of the group orbit \(G \Gamma\) of a homoclinic cycle \(\Gamma\). A simple homoclinic cycle is such that: the unstable manifold \(W_u (p)\) of fixed points is one-dimensional; and there is a two-dimensional fixed point subspace \(P\) of an isotropy subgroup of \(G\), such that \(\gamma \in P\) and \(g p\) is a sink in \(P\). A simple homoclinic network is the group orbit of a simple homoclinic cycle. A simple homoclinic cycle persists under small \(G\)-equivariant perturbations of the dynamical system. Based on the classification provided by \textit{P. Chossat, M. Krupa, I. Melbourne} and \textit{A. Scheel} [Physica D 100, No.~1--4, 85--100 (1997; Zbl 0892.34044)] and using previous work by \textit{M. Krupa} and \textit{I. Melbourne} [Ergodic Theory Dyn. Syst. 15, No.~1, 121--147 (1995; Zbl 0818.58025); Proc. R. Soc. Edinb., Sect. A, Math. 134, No.~6, 1177--1197 (2004; Zbl 1073.37025)] and by \textit{N. Sottocornola} [C. R., Math., Acad. Sci. Paris 334, No.~10, 859--864 (2002; Zbl 1082.37055); Nonlinearity 16, No.~1, 1--24 (2003; Zbl 1138.37306); J. Differ. Equations 210, No.~1, 135--154 (2005; Zbl 1066.34042)], the authors study resonance bifurcations which destroy the asymptotic stability of robust simple homoclinic cycles in four-dimensional dynamical systems. They provide a classification for these bifurcations. They establish that typically a periodic trajectory near the cycle is created, and this is asymptotically stable in the supercritical case.
