This paper deals with the exterior Helmholtz equation that arises from a time harmonic electromagnetic scattering problem posed in the plane. The purpose of this paper is develop a new coupling of mixed finite element and BEMs. The authors introduce the Galerkin mixed -- FEM/BEM discretization and provide the associated convergence results. Some numerical results are presented.
