In this work \textit{metric coordinate systems} are defined with the objective of exporting the notion of vector fields on manifolds to metric spaces. The authors introduce the mentioned notion, give several examples and show the relationship between Cartesian and metric coordinates on Euclidean and Hilbert spaces. They continue by defining \textit{derivatives of curves, tangent bundles} and \textit{vector fields} in metric coordinate systems and they prove the main theorem which assure that the defined vector fields, under some conditions, have integral curves (an analogue to the classical Cauchy-Lipschitz Theorem in this context). Finally they state some open problems on the topic.
