    Let \(I_{\alpha}, 0<\alpha <n,\) be the fractional integral operator \[ I_{\alpha}f(x) = \int_{\mathbb{R}^n} \frac{f(y)}{ | x-y |^{n - \alpha}}dy, \] and \([b, I_{\alpha}]\) be the commutator operator defined by \[ [b, I_{\alpha}] f(x) = b(x)I_{\alpha}f(x) - I_{\alpha}(bf)(x). \] \textit{Y. Ding} [Northeast J. Math., 13, No. 4 , 422--432 (1997; Zbl 0903.42005)] and \textit{Y. Komori} and \textit{T. Mizuhara} [Hokkaido Math. J., 32, No. 2, 345--353 (2003; Zbl 1044.42011)] proved the following. The commutator \([b, I_{\alpha}]\) is a bounded operator from the Morrey space \(L^{p, \lambda}(\mathbb{R}^n)\) to \(L^{q, \lambda}(\mathbb{R}^n), \;1/q = 1/p - \frac{\alpha}{n - \alpha}\), if and only if \(b \in BMO(\mathbb{R}^n)\). They prove the following. The commutator \([b, I_{\alpha}]\) is a compact operator from \(L^{p, \lambda}(\mathbb{R}^n)\) to \(L^{q, \lambda}(\mathbb{R}^n), \;1/q = 1/p - \frac{\alpha}{n - \alpha}\), if and only if \(b \in VMO(\mathbb{R}^n)\) (BMO-closure of \(C^{\infty}_c\)).
