The authors establish doubly-exponential degree bounds for Gröbner bases in certain (not necessarily commutative) algebras including many which are classically important. The authors cover all relevant and important information regarding monomial ideals as well as Gröbner bases in algebras. All the algebras covered are of solvable type, and include commutative polynomial rings, Weyl algebras, and universal enveloping algebras of finite dimensional Lie algebras. In the non-commutative case the authors work out the bounds for one-sided (specifically left) ideals, then using this they extend the work to two-sided ideals. The paper contains several examples which are worked out explicitly. The technical aspect of the paper is thorough, self-contained, and very well organized.
