Let \(M\) be a connected closed smooth manifold of dimension \(d\). By the Hirsch-Smale theorem the space of immersions of \(S^1\) into \(M\) is weakly homotopy equivalent to the free loop space \({\mathcal L}UM\) on the unit tangent bundle of \(M\). The composition of immersions \[ \text{Imm} (S^1,M) \times_{UM} \text{Imm}(S^1,M)\to \text{Imm}(S^1,M) \] turns \(H\!H_*(\text{Imm}(S^1,M)) := H_{*+2d-1}(\text{Imm}(S^1,M))\) into an algebra isomorphic to the Chas-Sullivan loop algebra \(H\!H_*({\mathcal L}UM)\). Chataur and Le Borgne now consider the particular case \(M= S^n\). They filter \({\mathcal L}S^n\) by energy levels. This gives to the total space of the fibration \({\mathcal L}S^{n-1}\to {\mathcal L}US^n \to {\mathcal L}S^n\) a filtration and an induced Morse-Serre spectral sequence of algebras. The authors prove that the spectral sequence collapses at the \(E_2\)-term. They then solve the extension problems and deduce a presentation of the algebra \(H\!H_*(\text{Imm}(S^1, S^n);\mathbb Z)\).
