Three geometric applications of quandle homology (Q1019150)

The author gives a trio of applications of quandle homology to various problems in knot theory. This first gives an obstruction for embedding a tangle in a knot or link diagram using shadow colorings and quandle 3-cocycles. The second application uses a geometric interpretation of 2-cycles of even-order dihedral quandles to get an upper bound on the 4-move distance between links. The final application gives a condition in terms of quandle 2-cocycle invariants which a link must satisfy if the link is \(p\)-periodic for some \(p\).
