      The author analyses oscillation, sliding motion, friction and similar discontinuous phenomena arising in oilwell drillstring. After describing the systems model (section 2), the author analyses open-loop system properties (section 3), and later on (section 4) designs a linear proportional-integral controller eliminating nondesired behavior.
