Let \(G\) be a finite group, let \({\mathcal G}\) denote the category of finite \(G\)-sets, and let \(F\) be an additive functor from \({\mathcal G}\) to the category of abelian groups; here additivity means that \(F(X\sqcup Y)\) is canonically isomorphic to \(F(X) \times F(Y)\), for \(X, Y\in {\mathcal G}\). Then \(F\) determines a restriction functor \({\mathcal R}_F\) on \(G\), as defined by \textit{R. Boltje} [J. Algebra 206, 293--343 (1998; Zbl 0913.20001)], another restriction functor \(\mathbb Z[{\mathcal R}_F]\) on \(G\), where \(\mathbb Z[{\mathcal R}_F](H)\) is the free abelian group on \({\mathcal R}_F(H)\), for every subgroup \(H\) of \(G\), and a Green functor \((\mathbb Z[{\mathcal R}_F])_{+}\), as defined in Boltje's paper. The author's main result is a natural isomorphism between \((\mathbb Z[{\mathcal R}_F])_+\) and the \(F\)-Burnside ring functor \({\mathcal A}_F\). Here \(F \mapsto {\mathcal A}_F\) is left adjoint to the forgetful functor from the category of Green functors on \(G\) to the category of additive functors from \({\mathcal G}\) to the category of monoids. As an application, the author proves a result on the Brauer ring of a finite Galois extension of fields, as defined by \textit{E. T. Jacobson} [Ill. J. Math. 30, 479--510 (1986; Zbl 0602.13003)].
