The paper deals with numerical integration over a compact \(d\)-dimensional manifold \(M\) (\(d\geq 1\)), which is embedded in the Euclidean space \(\mathbb{R}^{d+k}\). The main result consists of estimating the quadrature error when integrating on spheres and projective spaces. Subsequently, this result is extended to a class of smooth functions in certain reproducing kernel Hilbert spaces. Following a similar approach to that of Gauss quadrature formulae, the authors use quadrature nodes which are the solution of a minimization problem whose objective function is an energy functional defined on \(M\) with respect to a class of group-invariant kernels. These energy functionals describe sets of points that have a density which may not be uniform. In particular, this theory is applied to weighted Riesz kernels defined on spheres and projective spaces.
