The paper is part of a series concerning the study of spaces of ultradifferentiable functions and ultradistributions of Beurling and of Roumieu type. Specifically, nonisotropic variants of these spaces are introduced on Cartesian products of open sets, using minimal general assumptions on the defining sequences \((M_p)\) and \((M'_p)\). In particular, Whitney's extension theorem is not used. The basic properties of the spaces are studied, such as the \((DFS)\)- or \((LFS)\)-property and density of entire functions and elementary tensors. This finally leads to tensor product representations and the corresponding kernel theorems.
