Penrose tiling is a remarkable aperiodic tiling obtained by using as prototiles two rhombs. There are known three methods to construct such a tiling, namely, a method based on the use of a matching rule, a method based on the use of an inflation rule and the so-called projection method. The paper presents a new investigation of the Penrose tiling properties based on de Bruijn's matching rule. It is known that there are eight allowed patterns around each vertex denoted by \(P_1, P_2, \dots,P_8\). The authors show that Penrose tiling is a superposition of \(P_6\) and \(P_8\). This means that \(P_6\) and \(P_8\) are in a sense the local charts describing the local configuration of tiles in the Penrose tiling, and can be regarded as prototiles on the construction of this tiling. Based on this approach the authors investigate the aperiodicity, locally isomorphic property and the uncountability. Generally, the paper present alternative proofs for well-known results.
