The authors construct a new Hermite-type triangular element for solving second-order elliptic problems in two dimensions. Its error estimates on anisotropic meshes are developed. They obtain the optimal order error estimates for the interpolation error estimate on anisotropic meshes and superconvergence results on the general anisotropic triangular meshes. Numerical examples are given to confirm their theoretical analysis.
