In this paper the author studies the instantaneous support shrinking phenomenon for a doubly nonlinear parabolic equation with fast diffusion and strong absorption. In terms of the behavior of locally integrable initial data, he formulates necessary and sufficient conditions for the realization of instantaneous shrinking by applying the methods of local integral estimates.
