\textit{I. Krichever} [Commun. Math. Phys. 229, No. 2, 229--269 (2002; Zbl 1073.14048)], built the space of Krichever-Lax matrices parametrizing the cotangent bundle of the moduli space of vector bundles over a compact Riemann surface \(\mathcal{R}\). There, he also defined a dynamics in terms of what is called a Lax representation: \[ \frac{d}{dt}L_t=[M_t,L_t]. \] Krichever gave a condition on \(M_t\) for the flows of the Lax representation become straight. However the above Lax representation is completely determined by \(M_t\), up to the addition of a polynomial on \(L_t\) or a commuting element with \(L_t\). Thus, the author gives, in the present paper, necessary and suficient conditions for the straightness of the flows, in terms of cohomology classes in a spectral curve of \(\mathcal{R}\). The author uses similar methods to the ones used in \textit{P. A. Griffiths} [Am. J. Math. 107, 1445--1484 (1985; Zbl 0585.58028)].
