A fundamental inequality in the study of surfaces of general type is Bogomolov--Miyaoka--Yau inequality, relating the self intersection of the canonical class with the Euler characteristic. In higher dimension similar relations are known only for Gorenstein minimal models, [\textit{Y. Miyaoka}, Sugaku Expo. 4, No. 2, 157--176 (1991); translation from Sûgaku 41, No. 3, 193--207 (1989; Zbl 0749.14006)]. The aim of this paper is to provide an inequality for minimal model 3-folds of general type with terminal singularities. The main result is that there is computable, but quite nasty, constant \(c\) such that \[ \chi(\omega_X)\geq -cK_X^3 \] for any 3-fold \(X\) of general type with terminal singularities. The result is obtained together with bounds on the plurigenera of terminal 3-folds of general type.
