This paper uses physical methods to obtain results or predictions on the A-model topological string theory on toric Calabi-Yau threefolds, including certain open and closed Gromov-Witten invariants. The method they employed is the duality in M-theory which identies the above A-model with certian gauge theory on \(\mathbb R^4\times S^1\), when the underlying Calabi-Yau is a resolution of cones over a five dimensional Sasaki-Einstein manifold \(Y^{p,q}\). Explicit examples for local \(\mathbb F_2\) and \([\mathbb C^3 / \mathbb Z_4]\) are studied in detail.
