The authors investigate the notion of a random attractor in the framework of a continuous random semidynamical system over a metric dynamical system, taking values in a Polish space. More precisely, they give necessary and sufficient criteria for the existence of strong and weak attractors for compact and for bounded sets. For weak attractors the proof is even constructive. Moreover, the authors prove that a weak attractor is a strong attractor if and only if it contains the omega-limit set of every set from the domain of attraction. They also apply their results for some stochastic differential equations.
