The authors study the generalised Jacobian problem, which asks wheter any étale morphism \(X\to X\) is an isomorphism, where \(X\) is an irreducible normal affine complex surface. In such a generality, there are counterexamples, and the most important open case is when \(X\) is the affine plane. In this paper, an affirmative answer to the problem is given, when \(X\) has at least one singularity which is not a quotient singularity.
