This book refers to statistical data analysis including goodness-of-fit testing. As far as the latter is concerned, in contrast to the traditional approaches that refer to formal statistical hypothesis tests for the one- and K-sample problems, the book presents a more general and informative treatment by also considering graphical and estimation methods, and by also providing information on the reason for rejecting the null hypothesis. The book consists of two parts, giving a self-contained theoretical treatment of a wide range of goodness-of-fit methods, including graphical methods, hypothesis tests, model selection and density estimation, relying on parametric, semiparametric and nonparametric theory. The first part discusses statistical methods for the one-sample problem, while the second part is devoted to the two- and K-sample problem. The book also contains many data examples for most of which R-code is provided, while each chapter ends up with a summary from a purely practical point of view. The book is written in an intermediary level aiming for two groups: for researchers, graduate and postgraduate students, and for practitioners of statistical methods assuming familiarity with matrix algebra, calculus, and asymptotic statistical inference.
