Let \(E\) be a Cantor set on the real line and let \(K=E\times E\). Denote by \(\delta_n\) the sum of the lengths of the intervals removed in the \(n\)th step of the construction of \(E\) and let \(\Omega={\mathbb C}^*\setminus K\) be the complement of \(K\) in the Riemann sphere. It is shown that, if \(\delta_n=o(1/\log\log n)\), then the corona theorem holds for \(\Omega\), i.e., for every collection \(\{f_k\},\;k=1,\dots,M\) of functions \(f_k\in H^\infty(\Omega)\) bounded away from 0 on \(\Omega\), there is another collection \(\{g_k\},\;k=1,\dots,M\), of functions \(g_k\in H^\infty(\Omega)\), so that \(\sum f_kg_k\equiv 1\) on \(\Omega\). The proof makes use of Carleson's classical proof of the corona theorem on the open unit disc.
