This paper is motivated by computer searches for identities of the Rogers-Ramanujan type (i.e. identities of the form \(q\)-series = \(q\)-product). Theorem 2.1 contains four identities, one of which is a special case of the \(q\)-Gauss identity and the other three of which are related through \(q\)-series transformations to identities of \textit{L. J. Slater} [Proc. Lond. Math. Soc. (2) 53, 460--475 (1951; Zbl 0044.06102)]. Theorem 2.2 reads \[ \sum_{r \geq 0} \frac{(1+aq^r)(a^2;q)_r(b;q)_r(-a/b)^rq^{r(r+1)/2}}{(a^2q/b;q)_r(q;q)_r} = \frac{(-a;q)_{\infty}(a^2q;q^2)_{\infty}(aq/b;q)_{\infty}}{(a^2q/b;q)_{\infty}}. \] This follows by combining the Watson-Whipple transformation and the \(q\)-Kummer identity. Theorems 2.4 and 2.5 each contain an identity coming from a Bailey pair arising from work of Slater. Theorem 2.6 contains an identity obtained by subtracting \(1\) from a known Rogers-Ramanujan type identity and simplifying. In Section \(3\) the authors construct two-variable generalizations of the four \(q\)-series in a group of Rogers-Ramanujan type identities due to \textit{W. N. Bailey} [Proc. Lond. Math. Soc., II. Ser. 49, 421--435 (1947; Zbl 0041.03403), Proc. Lond. Math. Soc., II. Ser. 50, 1--10 (1948; Zbl 0031.39203)]. When \(t=-1\) each of the series is expressed as the sum of three \(q\)-products. These identities are proven using a new Bailey pair (whose proof is non-trivial). In one of the cases the three products collapse to give a single product: \[ \sum_{n \geq 0} \frac{q^{n(n+1)}(-q^3;q^3)_{n}}{(-q;q)_{n}(q;q)_{2n+1}} = \frac{(q^3;q^3)_{\infty}(q^3;q^{18})_{\infty}(q^{15};q^{18})_{\infty}}{(q;q)_{\infty}}. \] The paper closes with a further application of the new Bailey pair.
