    An operator \(T : E \rightarrow F\) between Banach lattices \(E\) and \(F\) is called semicompact if for each \(\varepsilon > 0\), there exists some \(u\in F_+\) such that \[ T (B_E )\subseteq [-u, u] + B_F, \] where \(B_E\) is the closed unit ball of \(E\). An operator \(T\) from a vector lattice \(E\) into a Banach space \(F\) is called AM-compact if the image of each order bounded subset of \(E\) is relatively compact in \(F\). Let \(E, F\) be Banach lattices. It is well-known that, if the dual \(E'\) and \(F\) have order continuous norms, then a regular operator \(T:E\rightarrow F\) is compact if and only if it is semicompact and AM-compact. The authors study the variants of this theorem and they prove the following Theorem. Suppose that \(E, F\) are Banach lattices, \(T : E\rightarrow F\) is regular and \(F\) has order continuous norm. Then \(T\) is compact if and only if it is semicompact and \(T'\) is AM-compact. Conversely, if \(T\) is compact whenever it is semicompact and \(T'\) is AM-compact, then one of the following is true: {\parindent=6mm \begin{itemize}\item[(i)] \(F\) has order continuous norm, \item[(ii)] \(E'\), the dual of \(E\), is discrete. \end{itemize}} They prove a similar theorem, where this time \(E'\) is assumed to have order continuous norm. Namely, if \(E'\) has order continuous norm, then a regular operator \(T : E\rightarrow F\) is compact if and only if it is AM-compact and \(T'\) is semicompact. Conversely, if each regular operator \(T : E\rightarrow F\) is compact whenever it is AM-compact and \(T'\) is semicompact, then one of the following is true. {\parindent=6mm \begin{itemize}\item[(i)] \(E'\) has order continuous norm, \item[(ii)] \(F'\) has order continuou norm. \end{itemize}}
