A complex ruled surface admits an iterated blow-up encoded by a parabolic structure with rational weights. Under the condition of parabolic stability, the authors [J. Eur. Math. Soc. (JEMS) 11, No.~5, 979--997 (2009; Zbl 1181.32028)] constructed a Kähler metric of constant scalar curvature on the blow-up. In the paper under review, the authors show a generalization of that construction to the case of parabolically polystable ruled surfaces, thus giving numerous examples of Kähler surfaces of constant scalar curvature with circle or toric symmetry. On the other hand, they consider the action of the cyclic subgroup \(\Gamma_{p,q} \subset U(2)\) on \({\mathbb C}^2\) generated by \((z_1,z_2)\longrightarrow (z_1 \zeta, z_2 \zeta)\), where \(0<p<q\) are coprime integers, and \(\zeta\) is a \(q\)-th root of unity. Then, there is a minimal resolution \(Y_{p,q} \longrightarrow {\mathbb C}^2 /\Gamma_{p,q}\) of the orbifold singularity and the resolution carries an asymptotically locally Euclidean metric (ALE) which is moreover an scalar-flat Kähler (SFK) metric by a result of Calderbank-Singer (particular cases are due to Joyce, Kronheimer, and LeBrun). The authors prove that the ALE SFK metric on \(Y_{p,q}\) has non-positive mass; and it has zero mass if and only \(p=q-1\), that is, \(Y_{p,q} \longrightarrow {\mathbb C}^2 /\Gamma_{p,q}\) is a crepant resolution. This result generalizes a computation of LeBrun for the case \(p=1\).
