A group \(G\) is called a `PC-group' if the factor group \(G/C_G(\langle x\rangle^G)\) is polycyclic-by-finite for each element \(x\) of \(G\). This definition, which is of course a generalization of the usual concept of an FC-group, was introduced and investigated by \textit{S. Franciosi, M. J. Tomkinson} and the reviewer [Boll. Unione Mat. Ital., VII. Ser., B 4, No. 1, 35-55 (1990; Zbl 0707.20018)]. If \(\mathcal X\) is a class of groups, a group \(G\) is `minimal non-\(\mathcal X\)' if it is not an \(\mathcal X\)-group but all its proper subgroups belong to \(\mathcal X\). The structure of minimnal non-\(\mathcal X\) groups has been studied for several different choices of the group class \(\mathcal X\). In the paper under review, the authors describe minimal non-PC groups containing a proper subgroup of finite index.
