The author obtains a Fefferman-Stein inequality for the \({\mathbb Z}_2^d\) Dunkl maximal operator \[ M_\kappa f(x)=\sup_{r>0}\dfrac{1}{\mu_\kappa(B_r)}|(f*_\kappa\chi_{B_r})(x)|,\;x\in{\mathbb R}^d, \] where \(d\mu_\kappa\) is a \({\mathbb Z}_d\)-invariant measure with a multiplicity function \(\kappa\) on the root system, \(*_\kappa\) the Dunkl convolution, \(B_r\) the ball centered at the origin with radius \(r\) and \(\chi_{B_r}\) the characteristic function of \(B_r\). For \(x=(x_1,x_2,\dots, x_d)\), let \(\tilde x=(|x_1|,|x_2|,\dots, |x_d|)\) and \(R(x,r)=\prod_{i=1}^dI(x_i,r)\) where \(I(x_i,r)=[\max\{0,|x_i|-r\},|x_i|+r]\). If we define a maximal operator as \[ M_\kappa^Rf(x)=\sup_{r>0}\dfrac{1}{R(x,r)}\int_{\tilde y\in R(x,r)}|f(y)|d\mu_\kappa(y), \] the maximal theorem and the Fefferman-Stein inequality for \(M_\kappa^R\) are obvious, because \((\mathbb R^d, d\mu_\kappa)\) is a space of homogeneous type. However, since the Dunkl translation \(\tau_x^\kappa\) is not a positive operator, even if the maximal theorem has been established [see \textit{S. Thangavelu} and \textit{Y. Xu}, J. Anal. Math. 97, 25--55 (2006; Zbl 1131.43006)], the Fefferman-Stein inequality doesn't follow by a classical method. Let \(M_\kappa^Q\) be a maximal operator defined by replacing \(B_r\) with the cube \(Q_r=\{|x_i|<r, 1\leq i\leq d\}\). To obtain the Fefferman-Stein inequality the author shows that \(M_\kappa f(x)\leq M_\kappa^Q|f|(x)\leq M_\kappa^Rf(x)\) for each \(x\) in a regular set of \(\mathbb R^d\) and uses the result for \(M_\kappa^R\). The key is to prove, even if \(\tau_x^\kappa\) is not positive operator, \(0\leq\tau_x^\kappa(\chi_{\overline{B_r}})(y)\leq\tau_x^\kappa(\chi_{\overline{Q_r}})(y)\) holds for regular \(x, y\).
