    Consider an additive semigroup of integers generated by \(a\), \(b\), \(c\). There are only finitely many positive integers that do not belong to this semigroup. Consider the maximal of them and denote by \(N(a,b,c)\) the next to this number. The article describes the interrelations between the numbers \(N(a,b,c)\), on the one hand, and the geometrical theory of continued fractions describing the convex hulls of sets of integer points in simplicial cones, on the other hand. The author also provides some hints on the extension of \(N\) to non-integral arguments.
