The author proves that, for a link in a rational homology 3-sphere, link Floer homology detects the Thurston norm of its complement. In particular, he shows that knot Floer homology detects the genus of null-homologous links in rational homology 3-spheres. For links in \(S^3\), the first statement has been proved by Ozsváth and Szabó and the second one by the author.
