A cyclic set is a functor \(\Lambda^{\text{op}} \to \mathbf {Sets}\), where the cylic category \(\Lambda\), introduced by \textit{A. Connes} in [C. R. Acad. Sci., Paris, Sér. I 296, 953--958 (1983; Zbl 0534.18009)], is a modification of the simplicial category \(\Delta\). In [\textit{A. J. Blumberg}, J. Pure Appl. Algebra 210, No.~1, 29--41 (2007; Zbl 1117.55006)], a discrete model for the homotopy theory of \(S^1\)-spaces was given by means of triples consisting of a simplicial set, a cyclic set and appropriate compatibility data. The author generalizes this situation to \(O(2)\)-spaces by considering \(\Delta(\mathbb Z/2)\)-sets instead of simplicial sets, and dihedral sets instead of cyclic sets. Essentially, a \(\Delta(\mathbb Z/2)\)-set [\textit{Z. Fiedorowicz} and \textit{J.-L. Loday}, Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 326, No. 1, 57--87 (1991; Zbl 0755.18005)], is a simplicial set with a \(\mathbb Z/2\)-action in each dimension, whose realization is a \(\mathbb Z/2\)-space. Dihedral sets, introduced in [\textit{J.-L. Loday}, Adv. Math. 66, 119--148 (1987; Zbl 0627.18006)], are simplicial sets with the action of the dihedral group of order \(2(n+1)\) in dimension \(n\).
