This paper concerns crystals associated to the quantum group of affine type \(A_{e-1}^{(1)}\). Specifically, the authors show that two involutions of the Kashiwara crystal \(B_{e}(\infty)\) (associated to the negative part of this quantum group) are equal, namely the Kashiwara involution \(\ast\) [\textit{M. Kashiwara}, CMS Conf. Proc. 16, 155--197 (1995; Zbl 0851.17014)] and the Zelevinsky involution \(\tau\) [\textit{A. V. Zelevinsky}, Ann. Sci. Éc. Norm. Supér. (4) 13, 165--210 (1980; Zbl 0441.22014)]. This is achieved using the combinatorics of aperiodic multisegments and also allows for efficient procedures to calculate the involutions, in a way that does not use the underlying crystal structure, and hence for explicit matchings between the Ginzburg and Ariki parametrizations of simple modules associated respectively to affine and cyclotomic Hecke algebras.
