Let \(K\) be a number field and \(E/K\) an elliptic curve. Let \(L(\text{Sym}^nE,s)\) be the \(n\)th symmetric power \(L\)-function presented as an Euler product of \(L_v(\text{Sym}^nE,s)\) (for all finite places \(v\) of \(K\)). There are conjectures on the order of vanishing, meromorphic continuations and functional equations for these functions: such conjectures involve (as usual) Euler factors, conductors and local root numbers. The paper presents explicit computations of Euler factors and local signs for all finite primes (conductors can be found in [Algorithmic number theory. 7th international symposium, ANTS-VII, Berlin, Germany, July 23--28, 2006. Proceedings. Berlin: Springer. Lect. Notes Comput. Sci. 4076, 377--392 (2006; Zbl 1143.11332)]). The authors consider \(E/K_v\) and the \(l\)-adic representation of \(\text{Gal}(\overline{K}/K)\) (where \(v\nmid l\)) coming from Tate modules. They present the main properties of the representations and of local factors, then they divide the problem in various cases depending on the type of reduction of \(E\) at \(v\) and on the image of the inertia group via the representation of \(\text{Gal}(\overline{K}/K)\) (at the end the results for general \(n\) depend on these two informations and on the data for \(n=1\)). The proofs are carried on (case by case) by decomposing the complex representation of the Weil-Deligne group (from which all representations of the Tate module arise) into various easier factors and then computing all the data for these pieces.
