    Let \(\mathcal{L}(\mathcal{H},\mathcal{K})\;(\mathcal{L}(\mathcal{H})\), if \( \mathcal{H}=\mathcal{K}\)) denote the Banach space of all bounded linear operators between complex Hilbert spaces \(\mathcal{H}\) and \(\mathcal{K}\). In this paper, it is proved that for \(P\in \mathcal{L}(\mathcal{H})\), \(Q\in \mathcal{L}(\mathcal{K})\) and \(X\in \mathcal{L}(\mathcal{H},\mathcal{K})\), where \(P\) and \(Q\) are orthogonal projections, the equality \[ \left\| PX+XQ-X\right\| =\max \left\{ \left\| PXQ\right\| , \left\| (I-P)X(I-Q)\right\| \right\} \] holds. This result is a general form of the well-known Akhiezer-Glazman equality, where the equality is given in the particular case \(\mathcal{H}=\mathcal{K}\) and \(X=I\). On the other hand, the authors prove a general form of a theorem of {Y.\,Kato} and give some sufficient conditions concerning the equality \( \left\| PX(I-Q)\right\| =\left\| (I-P)XQ\right\| \). Some other generalizations of known results can be found in this paper.
