The introduction in this paper contains some useful facts to understand the concept of scattered continuity (briefly sc). Many properties of weakly discontinuous (wd) maps are also proved in this paper. If \(f: X\to Y\), \(g: Y\to Z\) are sc, and \(Y\) is regular, then the composition \(g\circ f\) is sc. \(f: X\to\) regular \(Y\) is \(\text{sc}\Leftrightarrow f\) is wd. An ordinal index \(\text{sc}(f)\) of sc is introduced recursively: \(D_0(f)= X\), and for \(\alpha> 0\), \(D_\alpha(f)= \bigcap_{\beta<\alpha}(f\mid D_\beta(f))\). For sc \(D_\alpha(f)= \emptyset\) for some \(\alpha\). The smallest \(\alpha\) is called the index of sc. In a similar way, the index of wd of a map \(\text{wd}(f)\) is defined. If \(f: X\to Y\) is sc(wd) and \(Z\subset X\), then \[ \text{sc}(f|Z)\leq \text{sc}(f)(\text{wd}(f)\leq \text{wd}(f)). \] If \(f: X\to Y\) is wd, and \(g: Y\to Z\) is sc, then \(\text{sc}(g\circ f)\leq \text{sc}(g)\text{wd}(f)\). There is an important question: Is \(\text{sc}(f)= \text{wd}(f)\) for any sc map \(f: [0,1]\to\mathbb{R}\)? For \(f\): (fairly restricted space) \(X\to\) regular \(Y\), \(f\) is \(\text{sc}\Leftrightarrow f\) is \(\text{wd}\Leftrightarrow f\) is piecewise continuous. There is a diagram which states the relationship among sc, wd, piecewise continuous, \(G_\delta\) measurable, \(F_\sigma\) measurable maps. Finally some examples and counterexamples are given.
