The bounded derived category \(D^b(X)\) of coherent sheaves on an algebraic variety \(X\) is of fundamental importance in modern algebraic geometry. A remarkable fact is that it can often be constructed starting from different mathematical objects. A first example of this phenomenon has been observed by \textit{A. A. Beilinson} [Funct. Anal. Appl. 12, 214--216 (1979; Zbl 0424.14003)]. He showed that the derived category of the projective space \(\mathbb{P}^n\) can be obtained as the derived category of the abelian category of finitely generated right \(\mathrm{End}_{\mathbb{P}^n}(\mathcal{E})\)-modules, where \(\mathcal{E}\) is a certain vector bundle. A vector bundle \(\mathcal{E}\) on a variety \(X\) with this property is called a tilting generator. The aim of the paper under review is to construct tilting generators via ample line bundles and to apply this method for some examples. Therefore, the authors generalize arguments of \textit{M. Van den Bergh} [Duke Math. J. 122, No. 3, 423--455 (2004; Zbl 1074.14013)] who has shown a criterion for the existence of tilting generators on projective schemes over an affine base. The authors can relax the assumptions of van den Bergh's theorem for certain affine base schemes using ample line bundles. But their methods are also applicable to more general examples. In particular, they construct a generator for the derived category of the cotangent bundle on the Grassmann manifold \(G(2,4)\).
