For every finite planar triangulation with proper 2-coloring an abelian group \(A_W\) is associated by labeling the vertices with commuting indeterminates and relations to say that labels around every white triangle add to the identity. In the paper under review the authors prove that the group \(A_W\) has free rank two and its torsion group \(A_W^{*}\) has the same order as the corresponding \(A_B^{*}\) for the black triangles. Then a connection between separated connected Latin bitrades \((W,B)\) and 2-colorable planar triangulations is exploited to prove that \(W\) can be embedded in \(A_W^{*}\).
