The paper is devoted to obtain explicitly the asymptotic contracted density of zeros for a large class of orthogonal polynomials. The sequences of orthogonal polynomials considered are such that the coefficients of the three term recurrence relation may be unbounded but vary regularly and have a different behaviour for even and odd indices, that is, the coefficients divided by a regular varying function with positive exponent have a different limit for even and odd terms. The main result shows that the asymptotic contracted density of zeros can be written in terms of the hypergeometric Lauricella functions. Moreover, when the coefficients of the recurrence relation have special asymptotic behaviour the result is more simple. Indeed, the authors present some relevant particular cases which are obtained from the reduction properties satisfied by the Lauricella functions.
