Let \((M,\omega)\) be a closed symplectic manifold, which is symplectically aspherical, i.e. \(\langle[\omega],\pi_2(M)\rangle= 0\), and let \(\phi: M\to M\) be a Hamiltonian symplectomorphism. Let \(HC_*(M_\phi,\underline J)\) denote the contact homology of the symplectic mapping torus \(M_\phi\) with chosen cylindrical almost complex structure \(\underline J\) on \(\mathbb{R}\times M_\phi\). Let \(\mathbb{Q}[H_2(M)]\) denote the graded group algebra generated by \(H_2(M)\), \(\mathbb{Q}[H_2(M)]= \{\Sigma q(A) e^A\mid A\in H_2(M), q(A)\in \mathbb{Q}\}\), \(\text{deg}(e^A)=\langle c_1(TM), A\rangle\). The main result of the paper is a proof of the following isomorphism \(HC_*(M_\phi,\underline J)\simeq{\mathcal G}(\bigoplus_{\mathbb{N}} H_{*-2}(M, \mathbb{Q}))\otimes \mathbb{Q}[H_2(M)]\), where \({\mathcal G}\) is the graded symmetric algebra functor. One of the methods used in the proof is to study the moduli spaces of rational curves for \(M_\phi\) and to prove a transversality result. The paper is very technical.
