    The Finite Extensible NonLinear Elastic method (FENE method) refers to a constitutive relation within an almost shear flow, where in this case the relation is obtained from a microscopic analysis of polymer chains based on new results from a study of the Fokker-Planck equation. Thin flows are generally considered to be almost like one-dimensional flows and also almost like shear flows. This study makes it possible to understand which could be the dominant terms in the equations coupling this aspect of rheology and hydrodynamics. A number of possible applications are given relating to lubrication, boundary layers and biology.
