The authors study liftings of holomorphic maps into some Teichmüller spaces and also study the relationship between universal holomorphic motions and holomorphic lifts into Teichm\"ller spaces of closed sets in the Riemann sphere. Let \(\Omega\) be a plane domain whose complement \({\mathbb C} \backslash \Omega\) contains at least two points. Let \(M(\Omega)\) be the open ball of the complex Banach space \(L^{\infty}(\Omega).\) The standard projection \(\Phi\) of \(M(\Omega)\) onto the Teichmüller space \(\text{Teich}(\Omega)\) maps \(\mu \in M(\Omega)\) to the Teichmüller class of a quasiconformal map whose domain is \(\Omega\) and whose Beltrami coefficient is \(\mu.\) Each \(\mu\) in \(M({\mathbb C})\) is the Beltrami coefficient of a unique normalized quasiconformal homeomorphism \(w^{\mu}\) of \(\overline{{\mathbb C}}\) onto itself. Define the quotient map \(P_{E} : M({\mathbb C}) \rightarrow T(E)\) by setting \(P_{E}(\mu)\) equal to the \(E\)-equivalence class of \(w^{\mu}.\) If \(E\) is a subset of the closed set \(\overline{E},\) there is a well-defined ``forgetful map'' \(p_{\overline{E},E}\) from \(T^{\overline{E}}\) to \(T(E)\) such that \(P_{E} = p_{\overline{E},E} \circ P_{\overline{E}}\). The Main Theorem. Let \(E = \{0, 1 , \infty, \zeta_{1},..., \zeta_{n}\}\), where \(\zeta_{i} \neq \zeta_{j}\) for \(i \neq j\), and \(\zeta_{i} \neq 0, 1 , \infty\) for all \(i = 1,..., n\). Let \(\overline{E} = E \cup \{ \zeta_{n+1}\}\), where \(\zeta_{n+1}\) is any point in \({\mathbb C} \setminus\{ 0, 1 , \infty\}\) distinct from \(\zeta_{i}\) for all \(i = 1,..., n\). Then, given any holomorphic map \(f\) from \(\Delta = \{ z \in {\mathbb C} : |z| < 1\}\) into \(T(E),\) there exists a holomorphic map \(\widehat{f}\) from \(\Delta\) into \(T(\overline{E})\) such that \(p_{\overline{E},E} \circ \widehat{f} = f\). The novelty of the present paper is that some ideas of Chirka and a theorem of Nag is used to give a direct proof of the above theorem. This approach therefore also gives a new interpretation of Chirka's methods.
